Today, legendary singer Dionne Warwick, 75, announced that former Destiny’s Child member Letoya Luckett will portray Warwick in a forthcoming biopic. Reportedly titled “Dionne”, the film will be based on her memoir “My Life As I See It: An Autobiography”. The film’s story line will focus on Warwicks’s career from 1962-1968, the time she reportedly had a rivalry with the late British singer Cilla Black. Other names slated to appear in the film include Danny Glover as Warwick’s father, and Olympia Dukakis as Warwick’s mentor Marlene Dietrich. “Dionne” is being shopped to buyers at Cannes for their film festival. This could be Luckett’s breakout role. It’s definitely everyone’s worse nightmare, falling in front of a crowd of people on national television. That’s what happened to R&B songstress Mehgan Trainor after her performance of her single “Me Too” on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon”. Backed by a live band, she and her backup dancers worked the stage for a fun and sassy performance of the single from her latest album “Thank You”. Clad in a form fitting green dress and platform heels, that may have lead to her downfall. After wrapping up her performance, as she turned to grab the mic, her ankle shifted wrong, causing her to lose her balance, grab the mic stand and fall to the ground. An embarrassed Trainor just stayed on the ground as host Fallon soften her embarrassment by laying beside her. Trainor sent a tweet to Fallon thanking him for his support. Hip Hop newcomer Genesis Be has had activism pumping through her veins for some time. Being reared in Biloxi Mississippi among a religiously and racially diverse family of human rights activist, she began writing poetry as a child and was inspired to convert them into raps after listening to 2Pac’s debut album “2Pacalypse Now”. Be wrote rhymes for the instrumental cassette for Outkast’s 2013 release “Players Ball” and began rapping at talent shows at 14. After her father witnessed one of her performances, her father took her to a professional recording studio at age 17. Now, she’s preparing to release her EP “Gulf Coast Queen”. With this offering, Be decided to go in a lighter direction with love songs and motivational themes, even releasing the track “My GCK” on Billboard. Be has a bright future ahead of her. Rapper Chance The Rapper released his new album “Coloring Book” at midnight last night, and it marks a change regarding the rapper selling his music at retail. The album has been made available via Apple Music and mixtape site Datpiff. Sales of the EP have been brisk and no doubt there’s more to come.
