Legendary R&B band Kool  The Gang, which has been celebrating its 50th anniversary, will be “Keeping The Funk Alive” this summer. That’s the name of the multiple award winning groups new tour, which will also feature Morris Day & The Time, Bootsy’s Rubber Band, Doug E. Fresh and Big Daddy Kane. The eight day run begins on July 22 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and ends on Aug. 28 in Los Angeles. More details regarding the tour can be found at KoolAndTheGang.com. Three time Grammy Award winner Lalah Hathaway is currently on a 17-city tour. Forthcoming stops include Austin TX. (May 29), Newark NJ (June 10), New Orleans LA (Essence Festival June30-July 3), Los Angeles CA (July 22) and Chattanooga TN (Aug. 20). Before that, Hathaway, who won her third consecutive Grammy with a cover of her father Donny Hathaway’s “Little Ghetto Boy”, will make a guest appearance on the talk show “The Real” on May 23 where she will perform “Little Ghetto Boy” with guests Snoop Dogg and Terrance Martin. R&B trio King wll re-release their debut album “We Are King” on vinyl on July 12. In the meantime, twin sisters Paris and Amber Strother have added collaborations with Corrine Bailey Rae and Robert Glasper to their list of achievements. The duo count production, performance and co-writing credits on Rae’s latest album “The Heart Speaks In Whispers” via several tracks, “Green Aphrodisiac”, “Been To The Moon” and “Tell Me”, among them. For Glasper’s forthcoming Mile Davis inspired album “Everything’s Beautiful”, which will be released May 27, King wrote, produced and arranged the track “Song For Selim”. Stevie Wonder has also asked the group to be a guest during his upcoming British Summertime Festival performance. Now extended through the summer, King’s tour schedule now includes a June 11 performance at New York’s Summerstage. Cable channel BET has just begun airing a reality series titled “20 Years Later”, which allows fans to see how iconic hip hop artists began their careers. The first installment featured rapper AZ and will conclude tomorrow. It’s a show fans won’t want to miss.
