Singer Alicia Keys helped kick off the Labor Day holiday weekend by appearing on NBC’s “Today Show” summer concert series. Keys performed her hits “Girl On Fire”, “You Dont’ Know My Name” and “No One.” She also performed her new single “In Common” as well as “Back To Life”, her contribution to the forthcoming Disney biopic “Queen Of Katwe.” Keys talked with Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie about her new music and going without makeup. She even inspired host Tamron Hall and male hosts Billy Bush and Al Rocker to remove their television makeup. Keys  helped Hall remove her makeup with a few moist towelettes. On September 1, BMI celebrated the songwriters and publishers of the year’s most performed R&B/hip hop songs during their 2016 BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards , which was held at the Woodruff Arts Center’s Symphony Hall in Atlanta. Grammy award winning singer Toni Braxton took home the highest honor of the evening when she was presented with the President’s Award in recognition of her immeasurable impact on popular music during her 25-year career. Hosted by actor/comedian Chris Tucker along with BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations in Atlanta Catherine Brewton, the evening included stellar performances by some of the hottest talents in music. DJ Khaled and Ludacris started the show with the hit “All I Do Is Win.” Rising star Kent Jones performed his single “Don’t Mind.” Rich Homie Quan took the stage to perform “Type Of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and Rae Sremmurd got the crowd out of their seats for the singles “No Type” and “Black Beatles.” The second  half of the show included outstanding tribute performances from gospel star Yolanda Adams, who received a standing ovation for her rendition of “Un-Break My Heart.” Three of Braxton’s four sisters, Towanda, Trina and Traci, paid homage to their sister while showcasing their vocal talent on “Breath Again.” R&B songstress Ledisi wowed the audience with her rendition of “Seven Whole Days.” After a moving introduction by mogul Antonio “LA” Reid, Ms. Braxton herself took center stage to perform a fan favorite, “He Wasn’t Man Enough”, with her sisters on background vocals. Sia teams up with an old friend as well as a new one for her latest single “The Greatest”, which was released unexpectedly over the Labor Day weekend. The uplifting, popish song with an island vibe includes a guest appearance by Kendrick Lamar, who makes his presence felt early on. In a dance heavy clip, the visual features Ziegler leading a troupe of fellow children and adults in a joyous routine inside a dilapidated apartment building, moving from one room to another, with the compliment of facial and hand gestures. Lamar doesn’t appear in the clip. While tuning into Fox Sport’s new sports debate show “Skip & Shannon: Undisputed” today, fans will hear none other than rapper Lil Wayne touting his own debate skills on the single “No Mercy.” The clip features a shirtless Lil Wayne as well as the show’s stars Skip Bayless, former NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe and moderator Joy Taylor as well. Wayne is also expected to be a guest on the debut episode of today’s show and has been a frequent guest of Bayless’ ESPN programs.
