Last Thursday evening, October 13th, “The Official Prince Tribute: A Celebration of Life & Music” took place at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul Minnesota and many artist came out to pay tribute to the late Prince, who passed away on April 21st. Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Tori Kelly, Doug E. Fresh, Morris Day & The Time, Judith Hill, Liv Warfield, Luke James and Mint Condition were all a part of the star studded line up along with Prince’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia. Chaka Khan and Stevie Wonder turned “1999” into a duet, while Khan performed “I Feel For You”, a Prince remake that was a hit for Khan in 1984. Wonder performed a rendition of “Rasberry Beret” and Morris Day performed “Jungle Love.” Luke James performed a medley of “Do Me” and “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World”, while Bilal did a rendition of “The Beautiful Ones”, the song he performed during a Prince tribute at the 2016 BET Awards. Singer Michel’e’s Lifetime biopic “Surviving Compton” set the social media site Twitter on fire when it aired on October 15. Now, in addition to the film, she’s preparing to  tell her story in a memoir scheduled for a January release. She’s also working on new music and a women’s hair care line. It’s definitely her time to shine. Congratulations to singer/songwriter/producer RL of the R&B group Next are in order. He tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Lena Danielle over the weekend. The couple wed at the Victoria Belle Mansion in Hogansville Georgia. RL wore a white jacket tux with black trim while his bride wore a princess cut gown with lace sleeves and a long, floral veil. Toya Wright and Monyetta Shaw were bridesmaids. They word long, pink gowns. This is RL’s second marriage. Here’s wishing the couple many years of happiness. After twerking in front of thousands at the Tidal X concert and meeting her idol Lauryn Hill, rapper Nicki Minaj called radio show  “The Breakfast Club” to discuss meeting Hill in person, postponing her forthcoming television show, and newer rap acts she enjoys. She stated that meeting Hill was a surreal  moment for her, adding  that Hill was sweet and gracious. She said of spending time in her hometown New York City, that she’s working on several projects and excited about them all. As far as the television show goes, she says creatively she and her team wanted to make some changes regarding the pilot. They’re taking their time. Everyone wants it to be perfect. She concluded by stating that she’s taken a liking to several newcomers in the rap game. In particular, Young MA. DJ Khaled has been grinding for over two decades, but the past two years have seen his star power rise, thanks to his Snapchat and magnetic catch phrases. After rocking supporters with his “major keys”, it’s been as new deal every other week. He has Jay Z as a manager, in addition to owning the last original Rock-A-Fella chain, he released his first Billboard 200 album with “Major Keys” this year and he’s also the host of the “We The Best” radio show on Beats 1. Now, the DJ/producer’s latest deal comes in the form of becoming the face of CIROC Mango, which hits bars today. Only time will tell what’s next for the DJ/producer.
