Adele Emily Sande, known professionally as Emeli Sande, is a Zambian/Scottish singer/songwriter. She first rose to prominence after being featured on the single “Diamonds Rings” by rapper Chipmunk. She released her first solo single “Heaven” in 2011. Her career initially began after her sister sent a tape of her playing piano and singing the song “Nasty Little Girl” to Trevor Nelson’s BBC Urban Music competition. Although she won the show, her then management decided against the record deal she was offered. She later became involved with the Urban Scot elective, who encouraged her career by promoting her in Scotland. She eventually signed a deal with Virgin/EMI Records.
