Brooklyn natives were excited to see “Love Jones: The Musical” on October 22 and 23 at the Kings Theater. It was one of the most anticipated theatrical debuts to hit radio, television and social media. The musical starred Chrisette Michele, Musiq Soulchild, Dave Hollister, Raheem DeVaughn, MC Lyte and Marsha Ambrosius. The musical is based on the classic 1997 film “Love Jones”, which starred Larenz Tate and Nia Long. Fans were given an opportunity to relive the love story of Darius Lovehall and Nina Mosely. When the curtain opened, fans were treated to a show that incorporated reality television, live singing and special appearances from singer Gary “Lil G” Jenkins of Silk and Michel’le. The musical’s content was similar to the film as a way of paying a homage to it’s story line. Chrisette Michele played Nina Mosely; Tony Grant played Darius Lovehall; Musiq Soulchild played Darius’ best friend Savon; Chad Lamar Shepard played Nina’s ex-fiancé Marvin; and Raheem DeVaughn was the musical antagonist Wood. Overall, the musical added the right cast members to play the characters that were originally featured in the film. It showed the ins and outs of romantic relationships. Those who missed the show at the Kings Theater can purchase tickets until December 10. The last show will take place in Rochester New York. According to TMZ, the large monetary sum was tied to the former couple’s prenup had they married. Reportedly, Packer wanted to marry Carey on March 1, but his attorneys held up the wedding because the prenup wasn’t solidified. Reportedly, Packer’s lawyers felt the prenup was complicated, sending Mariah’s team a 100 page document that outlined the specifics. One condition was if Packer gave Carey jewelry or anything else, she would have to return it unless he sent her a signed note saying it was a gift. Around the same time, Carey reportedly purchased a dress, ordered flowers and flights for guests had been secured. If the wedding had taken place, the two wouldn’t have been legally married because Mariah’s ex-husband, Nick Cannon, hadn’t signed their divorce papers. In a nutshell, the prenup was never signed, but Carey still wants her check. She believes Packer’s people deliberately sabotaged their relationship. Joe fans, let’s toast to the crooner’s new album.
