Singer/songwriter Jhene Aiko’s decision to become a vegetarian has been recognized by one of the largest animal rights groups in the country, PETA. The organization has selected the songstress as their 2016 Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity, and to promote the honor, she posed nude for PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign, along with the tagline “Drop the fur.” The singer opened up regarding why she became a vegetarian by saying she once became ill, and was told by doctors that it was due to not eating properly. Congratulations on the honor! Last night, singer Mariah Carey flipped the switch at the Empire State Building in New York City for the Symbolic Lighting Ceremony to kick off the holiday season. The songstress has teamed up with ESB and lighting designer Marc Brickman to chorography the icon building’s lights to her holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” beginning Dec. 19 while the song will be simulcast on iHeartRadio stations. She has also kicked off her third annual “Mariah Carey: All I Want For Christmas Is You Concert” at New York City’s Beacon Theater, which runs through Dec. 17. Long time collaborators Ja Rule and Ashanti, who recently wrapped up a sold out co-headlining U.S. tour, gave another spellbinding performance at the Apollo Theater in New York City. Ashanti sported a purple sequined dress, while Ja Rule sported all black as the duo delivered the remix of the Broadway hit “Helpless.” Ashanti played the role of Elizabeth Hamilton, while Ja Rule played husband Alexander. “Helpless” appears on the Hamilton mixtape, which features appearances by Chance the Rapper, Usher, Alicia Keys, Nas, Queen Latifah, Aloe Blac and more. The Hamilton mixtape is available now. Rapper Tory Lanez has released several hits since signing with Interscope Records, and shows no signs of slowing down. To add to his achievements, he’s received a “Best R&B Song” Grammy nomination, and more is sure to come. He told Billboard magazine that although it was unexpected, it’s an honor to be nominated for the coveted award. He added that he’s currently in the studio working on more music. “The New Toronto 2” is coming along with “Chixtape 4.” He’s certainly proven to be a work horse who never stops. Rapper D.R.A.M., who has had an incredible 2016, can add Grammy nomination to his list of accolades. His hit single “Broccoli”, which features a guest appearance by Lil Yachty, has received a “Best Rap/Sung Performance nod. He told Billboard magazine that it’s a privilege to even be considered for the award. He’s says he’s preparing for 2017 by continuing to work. No doubt, the Virginia native will do just that.
