Janelle Monae Robinson, known professionally as Janelle Monae, is a singer/songwriter/producer/model/actress signed to her own label Wondaland Arts Society. Born on December 1, 1985, she began her career after moving to New York City to study drama at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and attending a performing arts camp called Freedom Theater, the oldest African American theater in Philadelphia, PA. After moving to Atlanta, GA in 2001, she met Big Boi of Outkast and founded Wondaland Arts Society with some like minded artists. In 2007, she released her debut album “Metopolis: Suite 1 (The Chase).” “The ArchAndroid” (2010) and “The Electric Lady” (2013) all followed later. She’s currently working on the album “Dirty Computer” which will be available on April 27.
