Michael Eugene Archer, known professionally as De’Angelo, is an American singer/songwriter/producer/musician from Richmond, VA. His musical talents were discovered early on. At age 3, he found his 10-year-old brother Luther playing the family piano. Following the formation of the group Michael Archer and Precise, and it’s success at Amateur Night competitions at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York City, the then 18-year-old Archer dropped out of school and moved to New York City to pursue his music career. Archer signed a publishing deal with EMI Music after attracting the attention of record executives via a demo tape, which was initially by the group. After an audition for EMI executives, De’Angelo was signed to a recording contract in 1993. His first significant success came in 1994 with the single “U Will Know”, which he co-wrote and co-produced for the all male R&B group Black Men United. In June 1995, Archer released his debut album, “Brown Sugar”, which featured the title track and “Lady.” His sophomore effort, “Voodoo”, was released in 2000. It featured the singles “Devil’s Pie”, “Left And Right” and “Untitled (How Does It Feel).” In December 2014, Archer released the album “Black Messiah.”
