EPMD is an American rap duo from Brentwood New York that rose to prominence during the 1980s. The group consisted of Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith. EPMD is an ancronym which stands for Erick and Parrish Making Dollars. In 1988, EPMD released their debut album, “Strictly Business.” It featured the underground hit “Strictly Business”, which contained a sample of Eric Clapton’s remake of Bob Marley’s “I Shot The Sherrif.” A second single, “You’re A Customer” was also released. The third single, “You Got’s To Chill”, contained a sample of the Zapp hit “More Bounce To the Ounce” and has become one of the most enduring samples in hip hop. A year later, the group released their sophomore effort, “Unfinished Business.” The first single, “So What You Sayin”, was a huge hit. They have released the albums “Business As Usual” (1990), “Business Never Personal” (1992), “Back In Business” (1997), “Out Of Business” (1999), “We Mean Business” (2008) and “Big Business” (2018).
