Stargard was an American R&B vocal trio. Stargard consisted of Rochelle Runnells, Janice Williams and Debra Anderson. The group is remembered for singing the theme song to the Richard Pryor film “Which Way Is Up.” The song appeared on the trio’s self-titled debut album, which was released via MCA Records in 1978. The album reached No. 12 & 26 on the Top R&B Albums and Billboard 200 charts respectively. That same year, the group released their sophomore effort “What You Waitin For.” The title track became a Top 10 R&B hit. The group later switched to Warner Bros. Records and released the album “The Changing Of The Gard” in 1979. The single “Wear It Out” reached No 4. on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. Stargard also performed background vocals on Junior Walker’s 1979 album “Back Street Boogie.” Debra Anderson left Stargard shortly after the release of “The Changing Of The Gard.” With Runnells and Williams in tow, the group released the album “Back To Back” in 1980. The album “Nine Lives” was released in 1982.
