Instant Funk were an American disco band from Trenton, NJ. The group consisted of Raymond Earl, drummer Scotty Miller and guitarist Kim Miller. The band initially called itself The Music Machine and was the backup band for The Manhattans, Bunny Sigler and The TNJs. Throughout their careers, Instant Funk was the backup band for several artists, including Lou Rawls, Loleatta Holloway, The O’jays, MFSB, Curtis Mayfield and Evelyn “Champagne” King. In 1976, the group relocated to Philadelphia, PA and released their debut album, “Get Down With The Philly Jump”,  as they began developing their sound. The band followed that effort up with a release for MFSB guitarist Norman Harris’ label Gold Mind, with front man Bunny Sigler titled “Let Me Party With You.” When the Gold Mind label folded, the group’s single ” I Got My Mind Made Up” was transferred to the Salsoul label, where it received heavy  play in clubs. “I Got My Mind Made Up” reached #1 on the R&B and disco charts and #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1979. Scotty Miller died on April 11, 2017 at age 65.
