The Cold Crush Brothers are an American hip hop group from the Bronx, New York City, New York. The group was known for their memorable routines, including harmonies, melodies and stage-stomping performances. The Cold Crush Brothers set the standard for MCing and became known as the Rolling Stones of hip hop. Formed in 1978, the group’s original line-up consisted of The Original DJ Tony Tone, Supreme Easy AD, DJ Charlie Chase, Whipper Whip, Mr. Tee and Dot-A-Rock. The Cold Crush Brothers toured all five boroughs of New York City and Boston before releasing records. Their popularity was strengthened by the sale of cassettes of their live performances. These cassettes were taped and distributed world wide via word-of-mouth promotion and mailed to people everywhere, including men and women serving in the armed forces. In 1982, The Cold Crush Brothers were featured in the film “Wild Style”, a seminal film depicting Hip Hop culture. The Cold Crush Brothers’ first commercial single was “Weekend”, released via Elite Records in 1982. Their second single, “Punk Rock Rap”, released via Epic Records, was released in 1983. Their most commercially successful single, “Fresh, Wild, Fly, And Bold”, was released in 1984. The song sold 16,000 units in its first week of release; a huge deal in the early 80s. The Cold Crush Brothers still perform around the United States today.
