Rapper Lil Nas X’s journey from unknown to successful recording artist is an inspiring one. When the rising hip hop star initially debuted his single “Old Town Road”, he had no idea how well the country, hip hop blend would do. The new Gen Z anthem streamed so outstandingly that it debuted on three Billboard charts simultaneously. Shortly thereafter, Billboard removed the song from the country chart stating that the song didn’t have enough elements in today’s country music to appear there. Billboard received a lot of backlash for its actions, meanwhile, Lil Nas X received more support. When  country singer Billy Ray Cyrus’ wife introduced the track to him, the cowboy boot wearing pro endorsed “Old Town Road” and considered it a country song. Cyrus put his money where his mouth is by joining Lil Nas X on a remix, which increased Lil Nas X’s momentum. The track is still on the Billboard chart, and as of this week, has been No. 1 on the Billboard chart for 16 weeks; tying with Mariah Carey’s hit “One Sweet Day”, featuring Boys To Men, and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito”, featuring Justin Bieber. If the single takes the No. 1 spot for a 17th week, it will be the longest number one single of all time. Congratulations to Lil Nas X!
