Quincy Matthew Hanley, known professionally as ScHoolboy Q, is an American rapper/songwriter based in Los Angeles, CA. Hanley has indicated that he wrote his first verse at age 16, but didn’t get serious about music until age 21. In 2006, he began working with independent label Top Dawg Entertainment, working in their studio House Of Pain and collaborating with their artists. Hanley began working with Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. This eventually lead to Hanley signing a contract with Top Dawg Entertainment. On July 29, 2008, Hanley released his debut mixtape “ScHoolboy Turned Hustla” via G.E.D, the same label that launched the career of fellow West Coast rapper Tyga. Following the release of “ScHoolboy Turned Hustla”, Hanley signed a contract with Top Dawg Entertainment and  formed the group Black Hippy with labelmates Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. On January 11, 2011, Hanley released his first independent album “Setbacks”, via iTunes to critical acclaim. He has also released the albums “Habits & Contradictions” (2012), “Oxymoron” (2014), “Blank Face LP” (2016) and “Crash Talk” (2019).
