A Tribe Called Quest is an American hip hop group from New York City. Formed in 1985, the group initially consisted of Q-Tip, MC Phife Dawg, DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad and MC Jarobi White, who left the group amicably in 1991. The group is considered a pioneer in alternative hip hop music. In early 1989, the group signed a demo deal with Geffen Records and produced a five song demo, which included later albums tracks “Description Of A Fool”, “I Left My Wallet In El Segundo”, and “Public Enemy.” The group was granted permission to shop for a deal, and after receiving several lucrative offers, decided to sign with Jive Records. Less than a year after signing with Jive, the group released their debut single, “Description Of A Fool.” They released their debut album “People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm” a short time later. On September 24, 1991, they released their sophomore effort “Low End Theory.” They went on to release the albums “Midnight Marauders” (1993), “Beats, Rhymes & Life” (1996), “The Love Movement” (1998) and “We Got It From Here… Thank You For Your Service” (2016).
