Singer Abria M. Smith had big fans for the anthem “We Shall Rise.” Smith, a Boston native, wrote the song while attending the Berklee College of Music, where she earned a degree in Music Business/Music Management. An artist who began honing her craft as a poet at age seven, Smith added acting, singing, rapping and songwriting to her portfolio by the time she reached her teens. “We Shall Rise” was one of two songs Smith wrote and submitted for inclusion on a 2006 Berklee College of Music produced CD that raised awareness and funds for the Darfur crisis. Smith’s talents as a singer/songwriter/rapper are on full display on the tune which blends a percussive, Afro-Caribbean shuffle beat with some 1970s wah wah guitar work.
