Deborah Cox is a Canadian singer/songwriter/producer/actress. She began her career singing in television commercials at age twelve, and entered talent shows including “Tiny Talent Time.” She performed in nightclubs as a teenager, and began writing songs around the same time. Cox entered the music industry in the early 1990s, performing as a background singer for Celine Dion for six months. After receiving several rejection letters from Canadian labels that claimed their quota was full, Cox moved to Los Angeles in 1994 with producer and songwriting partner Lascelles Stephens. In 1995, record executive Clive Davis signed Cox to Arista Records. Cox released her self-titled debut album the same year. The album featured the singles “Sentimental” and “Who Do You Love.” In 1998, Cox released her sophomore effort “One Wish.” The album’s first single, “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here”, peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The singles “We Can’t Be Friends”, “It’s Over Now” and “I Never Knew” all fared well on the charts. Cox has released the albums “The Morning After” (2002), “Destination Moon” (2007) and “The Promise” (2008). Cox will release her seventh studio effort in 2020.
