Sad news out of the world of R&B. Singer Jackie Moore, who is remembered for the 1970 single “Precious, Precious”, has died. She was 73. Born in Jacksonville, FL, she grew up admiring Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight, and her desire to start a singing career lead her to move to Philadelphia, PA, where she turned heads as a teenager. She was signed to the local Shout label where she recorded several regionally popular singles. Her reputation grew, and she was signed to Atlantic Records, where she broke through with the single “Precious, Precious.” She followed that effort with “Sometimes It’s Got To Rain”, but she was unable to maintain the success she achieved early in her career. As the Disco Era began, Moore showcased her versatility with the 1979 dance hit “This Time Baby.” She continued recording into the 80’s, but by the end of the decade, she retired to raise her family. Her powerful voice will remain with fans in a treasure trove of hits that can be cherished forever. May she rest in peace.
