Sy Smith-Peterson, known professionally as Sy Smith, is an American singer/songwriter/actress. She began her career leading the six piece Washington, DC based go go band In Tyme. Following her college graduation, she moved to Los Angeles, where she sang backup for Usher, Eric Benet, Me’Shell NdegeOcello, Ginuwine, Brandy, and spent more than a year on the road with Whitney Houston. Smith also made appearances as a regular fixture behind Vonda Shepard on the Fox series Ally McBeal. In 1999, Smith was signed to Hollywood Records, where she released the single “Gladly”, which reached #79 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. In early 2000, Smith released the single “Good N Strong.” In 2001, Smith was dropped from Hollywood Records. In 2002, Smith released the EP “One Like Me.” In 2004, Smith signed with Kajmere Records and began working on her second album. In 2005, Smith formed her own record label, Pysko Inc. The single “Fa Sho” was followed by her sophomore effort “The Syberspace Social.” Smith has also released the albums “Conflict” (2008), “Fast And Curious” (2012) and “Sometimes A Rose Will Grow In Concrete” (2018).
