George M. Duke was an American singer/songwriter/arranger/musician/producer from San Rafael, CA. He worked with numerous artists as a writer, arranger, producer, music director and professor of music. He rose to prominence following the release of the album “The Jean-Luc Ponty Experience With The George Duke Trio.” He released thirty solo albums, including “A Brazilian Love Affair”, which was his most popular. In addition, he’s widely known for his collaborations with other musicians, including Frank Zappa. While Duke was primarily known as a jazz artist, he delved into funk with the singles “Dukey Stick” and “Reach For It.” George Duke died on August 5, 2013 in Los Angeles at the age of 67 of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
