The Persuaders are an American R&B vocal group from New York City. The original lineup consisted of Douglas “Smokey” Scott, Willie Holland, James Barnes and Charles Stodghill. They were signed to Atlantic Records in 1971 and rose to prominence following the release of the single “Thin Line Between Love And Hate.” The song sold a million copies, topping the Billboard R&B chart, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association Of America on October 29, 1971. The group stayed with Atlantic for four years and scored several pop and R&B hits, including three R&B Top 10s. The group’s legacy continues with two sets of Persuaders. One group tours as The Persuaders featuring Vincent Ballard, Sylvester Jones, Tmarvin Williams and Keith Simmons. The other group tours as The Persuaders Review featuring Evan Wills, Chris White, Bernard Taylor and David Turner. The last original member of The Persuaders, Willie Holland, died on February 13, 2016. They released the albums “Thin Line Between Love And Hate” (1971), “The Persuaders” (1973), “Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me” (1974) and “It’s All About Love” (1977).
