2 Live Crew is an American hip hop group from Miami, FL. The group had it’s greatest commercial success during the late 1980’s to the early 1990s. The group’s original lineup consisted of Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell, “Mark “Brother Marquis” Ross, Chris “Fresh Kid Ice” Wong Won and David “DJ Mr. Mixx” Hobbs. The group is known for the sexually explicit and misogynistic content of their songs, particularly on their 1989 album “As Nasty As They Wanna Be.” They were frequently challenged for their sexually explicit lyrics. Their debut album, “2 Live Is What We Are”, was released in 1986. It featured the single “Throw The D.” The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association Of America. Their sophomore effort, “Move Something”, was released in 1988. The album went gold and featured the singles “Move Something” and “Do Wah Diddy Diddy.” In 1989, the group released its third and most successful album, “As Nasty As They Wanna Be.” It featured the single “Me So Horny” The 2 Live Crew also released the albums “Banned In The USA” (1990), “Sports Weekend: As Nasty As They Wanna Be Pt. 2” (1991), “Back At Your Ass For The Nine-4” (1994), “Shake A Lil Something” (1996) and “The Real One” (1998). Today 2 Live Crew consists of David “DJ Mr. Mixx” Hobbs and Mark “Brother Marquis” Ross. Chris “Fresh Kid Ice” Wong Won died on July 13, 2017, at age 53 of cirrhosis of the liver.
