Joycelyn Brown, sometimes credited as Joycelyn Shaw, is an American R&B/dance singer from Kingston, NC. Although she has only one Billboard Hot 100 chart entry in her name, she has an extensive background in the music industry and is well known in the world of dance music. Brown sang on 23 hit singles from the Official UK Singles Chart, 8 of which reached the Top 20. Brown began her career singing gospel before switching to secular music, singing with the local band Machine and the New York based funk/disco group Kleer. In 1984, Brown released several singles in her own name, including “Somebody’s Else’s Guy”, which she co-wrote. The song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was the title track from her debut album. Brown also charted with the singles “Dance” and “Love’s Gonna Get You.” However, her solo career never took off, and she continued singing on other artists’ records. More recently in both June 2012 and 2013, Brown appeared at the Happy Days Festival which was held at the Imber Court in Esher, Surrey.
