The System is an American R&B/sythn-pop band that rose to prominence in the 1980s. The band consisted of vocalist/guitarist Michael “Mic” Murphy and keyboardist David Frank. The duo was founded in New York City in 1982 and back by Paul Pesco on electric guitar and Kris Khellow on keyboards and synthesizers. The group is sometimes referred to as “emotio-electro” because of its hi-tech, synthesizer driven sound, married with passionate vocals and sensitive lyrics. In 1983, the group released their debut album “Sweat.” The album featured the singles “Sweat”, “I Won’t Let Go” and “You Are In My System”, which went on to become an R&B smash. In 1984, the duo released their sophomore effort, “X-Periment.” The duo’s greatest success came in 1987 with the release of the #1 single “Don’t Disturb This Groove”, taken from the album of the same name. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group also released the albums “Rhythm & Romance” (1989), “ESP” (2000) and “System Overload” (2013).
