McFadden and Whitehead were an American singing/songwriting/production duo from Philadelphia, PA. They are remembered for their signature song “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now.” They wrote and produced some of the most popular R&B hits of the 1970s, and were primarily associated with the Gamble and Huff record label Philadelphia International Records. McFadden and Whitehead formed as a recording act in 1977. The pinnacle of their success came in 1979 with the single “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now”, which peaked at No. 1 on the R&B charts and No. 13 on the pop charts, sold eight million copies worldwide and was nominated for a Grammy Award. On May 11, 2004, John Whitehead was murdered outside his home studio while standing aside as a young man made repairs to his SUV. He was 55 years old. Gene McFadden died of liver and lung cancer on January 27, 2006. He was 56.
