Eric Wright, known professionally as Eazy E, was an American rapper/songwriter/producer/entrepreneur from Compton, CA. Wright is credited with propelling gangster rap and leading the seminal rap group N.W.A. and its label Ruthless Records, pushing the boundaries of lyrical content. Wright’s debut album, “Eazy Duz It”, was released on September 16, 1988, and featured twelve tracks. It was labeled West Coast rap, gangster rap, and later, golden age hip hop. The album sold 2.5 million copies in the United States and peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard 200 chart. Wright continued recording with N.W.A until the group disbanded in 1991. Wright released three EPs before releasing his second album “Str8 Off Tha Streetz Of Muthafucking Compton” posthumously in 1996. Wright died on March 26, 1995 of AIDS-induced pneumonia. He was 31 years old.
