One of several R&B vocal groups to emerge during the 1960s and 1970s, the combination of Harry Ray, Al Goodman and Billy Brown became the most notable as the greatest live performing group of that elite bunch. While many groups of that era had far more successful recording careers, few have equaled the stage presence and consistent crowd pleasing shows of Ray, Goodman & Brown. After scoring a #1 single as The Moments on the Stang label, Ray, Goodman & Brown left the label and changed their name. They hit number one again as Ray, Goodman & Brown with “Special Lady” and went on to score several hits in the 1980s. After a dry spell and the brief departure of Harry Ray from the group, Ray, Goodman & Brown reunited for the album ‘Take It To The Limit.” The title song reached the top 10. That highly regarded disc has been out of print for some time, and Orpheus Records has reissued it. “Take It To The Limit” was written by Mike Harris and Rahni Song and captures the zeitgeist of mid-80s R&B and became a Quiet Storm classic.
