Valerie Simpson is an American singer/songwriter/producer from the Bronx, New York. She began her career singing gospel. She went on to become a member of the husband/wife songwriting/production team Ashford & Simpson. The duo joined Motown Records as writers/producers before signing with Warner Brothers Records as artists. Their best know songs are “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, “Your Precious Love”, “You’re All I Need To Get By” and “If This World Were Mine.” Simpson recorded two solo albums for Motown: “Exposed” in 1971, which was followed a year later by “Valerie Simpson.” The album included the single “Silly, Wasn’t I.” “Silly, Wasn’t I” was sampled by rapper 50 Cent on his single “Best Friend” and on Mur’s “Silly Girl.”
