The Detroit area has produced some of R&B’s most popular singers, from Smokey Robinson to Kem. Another vocalist following in that tradition of soulful crooners from his hometown is Smoke Jones.

He is not only a singer but also a bandleader known for blending smooth soul with a jazzy delivery. His new single – a love ballad called “Say Less” – falls into this category.

Smoke explains that “Say Less” is about “observing and listening to your partner about their love language…and then verbally expressing those points, so that your love knows you’ve been paying attention.”

In the lyrics that he penned, Smoke indicates that he’s been paying attention to what his lady wants:

“You told me you want a love, one that sustains you
Looks after your every need, one that remains true
So, baby, say less; say no more”

On this song, you hear Smoke’s convincing vocals underscored by Randal V. Wilson’s jazzy guitar. Listening to this track feels like a cool breeze on a warm day, or better yet a getaway by the beach. If you enjoy artists such as Carl Thomas and Kem, you’ll likely dig Smoke Jones.

“Say Less” became available on April 26th, a significant time for Smoke because it’s almost six years to the day of his first gig as a professional musician.

It’s been said that where there’s smoke, there’s fire; so check out Smoke Jones’ “Say Less” below. You may find yourself wanting more…
